Kreg Tjelmeland
Chief Executive Officer
Kreg has been involved in the construction industry for over 40 years. He founded Metal Design in 1999 and started by doing fabrications from his home garage and soon expanded to larger facilities and began doing work all over the USA. He serves on a number of non-profit boards and is passionate about running a business for a greater purpose. He has surround himself with many fantastic team members that have consistently exceed expectations. As CEO, he is excited to do the work of overseeing the transition to the next generation of MDSI leadership. He stays highly involved in design lab and developing new and innovating ways to create facades that can become landmarks.
Mike Gahring
President
Mike has been with MDSI since 2003 and has served the company in many different roles focused specifically within operations. Now serving as President, Mike provides the strategic leadership and guidance to insure MDSI provides worldclass products and services to worldclass customers. Keeping an eye on technology advancements, he looks forward to seeing how new and different technology trends will transform the industry.
Dave Untiedt
Chief Operations Officer
Dave Untiedt is one of our most diverse and experienced team members. With over 40 years of construction industry experience he brings a wide range of trades and skill to bear on our work in facades. Dave manages our most challenging projects that integrate facades, unitization, water management, and lighting. He has been with Metal Design for 20 years and has been a vital part of it’s growth in to a national organization. As Chief Operating Officer, he oversees our project management team and continues to help guide and direct MDSI towards the future.
Dave Sauerwein
Chief Design and Innovation Officer
David is the Chief Design and Innovation Officer at Metal Design Systems, Inc. and is also the Director of the Design Lab. He has held various positions with MCM fabricators for over 35 years including the last 18 with Metal Design Systems. David is responsible to insure all MDSI products exceed industry standards and has orchestrated many ASTM, AAMA and NFPA tests. In the Design Lab, his solution-based thinking brings innovative approaches to system design, project challenges and production methods.
Chad Showalter
Vice President of Sales
Chad Showalter is the Vice President of Sales and started at Metal Design Systems Inc. in 2007. He overseas the Sales and Estimating department including new architectural and corporate image sales. Through his 17 years at the company he has been able to grown the business into a top national exterior façade fabricator.
Tom Keesy
Estimating Manager
Tom Keesy is the Estimating Manager and started with Metal Design Systems in 2014. He oversees the team of Estimators on both the Architectural and Corporate Image side of the company. He strives to ensure the responsibilities of Scope Takeoffs, Pricing, Risk Analysis and Proposal Creation are executed flawlessly. During this process he always has his eye out for Service and Value Propositions to offer for the success of the project and all team members involved in the process.
Tommy Simpson

Tommy is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in sales, estimating, and project management. He has been an integral part of our company since 2006, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to our team. Tommy takes great pride in cultivating strong relationships with colleagues, customers, clients, and business partners. As a dedicated Director of Production, Tim Krebs thrives on the principles of precision, punctuality, and problem-solving. With a robust background in overseeing complex projects, and takes immense pride in consistently delivering results that are not only correct but also completed on schedule. His passion lies in the dynamic nature of production environments, where each day brings new opportunities to excel and exceed expectations.
Brandon Caldwell
Director of Design
Brandon began his journey with Metal Design Systems in 2015 working through various stages of the design department with a drive for accuracy and quality. In his current role as Director of Design , Brandon works alongside his team to provide excellence through high quality designs, and drawings that focus on providing the downstream clients with information and support they need for a high-quality fabrication and installation.

Sandy Szewc
Chief Administration Officer
Sandy began her career with Metal Design Systems in 2006, managing our Facility Branding processes and developing Exact Site for Laser scanning at MDSI. She now oversees Administration and IT, working closely alongside all other departments. Sandy is driven to ensure Metal Design Systems customers and vendors have the best experience in the industry, while internally, our teams are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible.
